AFCW 2 Dudley Town 0

Wulfrunians recorded a routine victory in a game which they dominated as they overcame Dudley Town. Goals from Kyle Brady and Ross Brown helped Wulfs on their way to the win.

AFC made the most of their early possession with Brady having their best opportunity. His shot from the left was fantastically tipped over the bar by the ‘keeper, he also came close when Nathan Rose-Laing flicked the ball on for him; only for Brady’s effort to fall just wide of the post.

It was Brady who again tested the Dudley goal shortly before the break- his effort from David Howells’ cross was mishit and just grazed the post as it rolled wide.

Wulfs continued on the front foot in the second half; Rose-Laing latched onto Michael Robertson’s ball into the area- but with the ball bouncing awkwardly he fired his effort over the bar.

Brady finally gave Wulfrunians the lead 15 minutes after the interval. Rose-Laing’s strike from Jake Sedgemore’s free kick was tipped upwards by the ‘keeper and as it fell, Brady managed to beat him to the ball and force his header in from close-range.

Substitute Ross Brown made an instant impact as his header from Brady’s free-kick entered a crowd of players surrounding the goal- only for the ball to eventually be launched clear.

It was Brown who eventually doubled Wulfs’ lead, his connection with a Brady corner flew past the Dudley ‘keeper and into the top corner.

Wulfrunians had the chance to extend their lead even further when Andy Thompson took the ball past two players before firing his shot narrowly over the bar.

Wulfs’ domination was emphasised by the fact that Dudley didn’t record their first shot on target until the 87th minute- and even then it was unclear who actually forced the effort towards goal- a scramble from a corner saw three players go up for a header that ended up with Danny Tipton pulling off a brilliant save to preserve his clean sheet.

This win, which was also Wulfrunians’ last home game of the season, means that a slim chance still remains of them winning the title. With just two games remaining, Lye Town hold a two point lead on them at the top of the table.
