AFCW 6 Bartley Green 0

AFC Wulfrunians made it back-to-back 6-0 wins as they eased past Bartley Green at the Castlecroft Stadium.

The home side got off to a flying start and went ahead in the 6th minute when a corner was half cleared out to Andy Thompson and his goalbound shot was diverted home by penalty area predator Ashley Burd.

James Skedgel then doubled the lead four minutes later when he rose highest to head home Burd’s right wing corner.

Shortly after, Mike Robertson went close to extending the lead when his low ball in to the area was narrowly missed by the stretching Nathan Rose-Laing but the ball skipped across goal and struck the far post before rebounding back into the keeper’s grateful arms.

Wulfs continued to make the running and were almost gifted a third goal when Bartley skipper Craig Collingwood sliced Jake Sedgemore’s dangerous free kick just over his own crossbar.

Thompson then went close with a spectacular scissor kick that flew just over the bar before Bartley had their first real effort at goal when Darryl Read burst through two challenges before firing way over from 20 yards out.

Courtney Charles then had an even better chance for the visitors when he intercepted an attempted back pass and slid the ball past keeper Danny Tipton but also past the far post.

They were made to rue this missed opportunity as Wulfs increased their lead in the 37th minute. Richard Palmer played a superb ball down the right flank for Thompson and his low ball in to the area was swept home at the near post by Robertson.

It became 4-0 four minutes into the second half when Robertson received the ball from a quick throw and slid a great ball through for Thompson to round the keeper and slot home.

Danny Tipton was in action as he saved well from Odane Barnes’ shot from a narrow angle while Robertson went close to extending the Wulfs lead when his goalbound shot was headed off the line.

It didn’t matter as Wulfs made it 5-0 in the 61st minute when Danny Crudgington’s dangerous low cross into the area was inadvertently turned in to his own net by Bartley defender Dan Crawford.

A minute later Wulfs went further ahead as Thompson’s burst into the area was halted illegally and Sedgemore stroked home the resulting penalty.

A triple substitution saw Alan Wilkes, Jordan Perks and Tom Piggott introduced and the three linked up superbly within a minute of their arrival to create an opening for Perks but keeper Aaron Gayle saved well.

A blip in defence presented visiting striker Courtney Charles with a good opportunity but he curled his effort over the bar when he should have done better.

In the closing stages, visiting keeper Gayle kept the scoreline down with good saves from numerous efforts from Wilkes, Piggott and Thompson while Burd saw his fierce shot blocked on the line.
