Goals flood in at Bewdley

AFC Wulfrunians produced their best league performance of the season to beat a jaded Bewdley Town 5-0 at Ribbesford Meadow.

Ground staff had worked all day shifting water to ensure the game could take place as the home side set their sights on a 3rd place finish but it was Wulfs who opened the brighter with Nathan Rose-Laing lobbing the keeper but seeing his effort go well wide and then the same player found the net but from an offside position.

The deadlock was broken in the 8th minute. Danny Crudgington exchanged passes with Rose-Laing on the edge of the area before firing a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Bewdley responded with a dangerous skidding free kick that keeper Danny Tipton handled well before Rose-Laing missed a guilt edged chance to double the lead after Crudgington had danced past three players on the edge of the area before setting him up.

Rose-Laing then headed a superb Ade Bandele cross wide and was almost made to pay when Bewdley striker Richard Burgess turned well on the corner of the area before firing a shot that crashed back off the post.

Wulfs started the second half strongly and doubled their lead in the 50th minute. Crudgington released Ben Jeavons down the right and his pin-point cross was headed home by an unmarked Rose-Laing.

Burgess twice went close to pulling a goal back, first when he shot wide after a neat turn on the corner of the area and then when he headed wide from close range.

Wulfs increased their lead in the 63rd minute when Ashley Burd’s corner was only partially cleared to Ade Bandele and he fired home through a crowded six yard box.

Ricky Anslow replaced Rose-Laing and he made it 4-0 with his first touch in the 65th minute. Robin Sheffield attacked a loose ball in midfield and played a good ball forward for Anslow to hold off his marker before firing past the keeper from a narrow angle.

The scoring was complete as Wulfs made it 5-0 in the 77th minute. Mike Robertson played a good ball into the left channel for Anslow to chase and his ball into the area was deflected into the path of fellow substitute Tom Piggott and he drove past the keeper.
