Wulfs crash out of FA Cup

Racing Club Warwick v AFC Wulfrunians – Townsend Meadow
Tuesday 2nd September 2020
Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round
AFC Wulfrunians travelled to Warwick for their first competitive game of the new season to face RC Warwick who are always competitive.
The AFC squad was depleted due to suspensions and injuries and included four debutants.
This was to be the last game played on the Warwick turf with the pitch to be taken up and replaced with 4G and the game attracted a large post lockdown crowd.
The game kicked off in bright September sun with both sides looking lively but AFC looked the better of the two sides.
James Spray was proving to be a handful up front for AFC and they should have been ahead when following a challenge by Spray on the Warwick keeper the ball dropped to Randane Larmond who’s volley was saved and Ben Jevons was unable to force the rebound home.
As often happens, Warwick took advantage and soon after their let off scored two in quick succession to give the visitors a mountain to climb, Sam Jackson finishing a cross from the left and Tom Smith finished well following a defensive mistake.
HALF TIME: RC Warwick 2 AFC Wulfrunians 0
AFC Manager Darren Goodall made two changes at the break replacing Larmond with Jumaane Meggoe and surprisingly taking off the lively James Hill for Tom Poole.
Playing down the slope AFC looked the better side and Meggoe was causing problems. Several AFC chances came and went but the Warwick keeper was having a good game.
Time was running out when a Spray free kick was parried by the keeper the follow up chance was deflected against the post and a succession of corners proved fruitless.
As in the first half Warwick made AFC pay by breaking away for a third, scored again by Jackson. Three shots, three goals, game over.
Overall a very demoralising result, Warwick were worthy winners and looked fitter and more organised.
AFC need to regroup and come back stronger against Highgate Utd.
FINAL SCORE: RC Warwick 3 AFC Wulfrunians 0
