Wulfs fall to Racers

AFC Wulfrunians continued with their busy October schedule welcoming Racing Club Warwick to the CKW Stadium for their Midland Premier Division fixture, the game being sponsored by KRD Financial Advisers Ltd. Earlier in the season Wulfs travelled to Warwick in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup and came away with a 2-0 victory.

FC started the game brightly and looked the stronger side during the early stages with new signing Dominic Dell looking lively up front.

After eleven minutes an excellent interchange in midfield between Franco and Bishop created an opening for Jumaane Meggoe who made no mistake firing home from the edge of the area for his ninth goal of the season.

The game settled into an even contest and on the half hour Warwick created three good scoring opportunities but by a combination of good luck and robust defending AFC maintained their lead.

At this stage the Racers were feeling that they were not getting the rub of the green from referee Jack Stenson and the official had a long discussion with the away side’s management team.

The second half started with Racing Club on the front foot and on forty-nine minutes they were all square following an AFC defensive mix up, Ryan Boothe slotting home for the visitors.

As the half continued the game was a very even contest with neither side able to carve out a clear chance and both defences were dominant.

However, Wulfs created their own problems late on conceding a foul on the edge of their penalty area. The resultant free kick was headed home unchallenged by Warwick centre half, Rudy Misambo at the far post.

A draw would have been a fairer result but AFC get a chance to return to winning ways when they welcome Lye Town to Castlecroft on Tuesday 22nd October for their Midland League fixture.
