Wulfs buried by Romulus

AFC Wulfrunians, fresh from their midweek victory over Lye Town, travelled to the Castle Vale Stadium to face high flying Romulus FC.

This was their second game in recent weeks to be played on an artificial 4G surface and, like it or loathe it, the fixture was one of the few games to be played at this level this weekend due to the atrocious weather.

The game started quietly but after fifteen minutes Simeon Colbourne of Romulus was gifted a first goal by AFC and this was quickly followed by a bizarre second with Wulfs keeper Dan Whitehouse opting to kick clear, driving the ball at close range into Jack Rowley’s back only for it to cannon back into the AFC net.

Wulfs showed great composure to remain positive and quickly cut the deficit with the goal of the game, Dominic Dell curling a shot into the far corner following great work by the AFC midfield.

On an afternoon like this the last thing the visitors needed was to be on the wrong end of a penalty decision but on the half hour a soft penalty was awarded to Romulus and Simeon Colbourne made no mistake from the spot.

To complete the mistake ridded first half for the visitors a poor throw out by the keeper gifted Romulus a fourth scored by the impressive Wills.

HALF TIME: Romulus 4 AFC Wulfrunians 1

Four one down at the interval gave the AFC management team a dilemma, “stick or twist” to their credit Wulfs chased an unlikely result and Meggoe nearly reduced the arrears driving just wide.

The AFC keeper then made a great save to keep the visitors just about in it as a contest but another error resulted in a fifth goal for Romulus when Chris Knight was dispossessed in the box and Tomkinson made no mistake.

Again, Wulfs showed great spirit and Chris Knight finished confidently following an AFC corner, but in the dying seconds the scoreline got even worse, and a little misleading, with McNulty flicking home a corner at the near post.

Ten goals conceded on 4G in two games in the month by AFC, lets get back on grass.
