TOTAL MOTION MIDLAND FOOTBALL LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY FC V AFC WULFRUNIANS

SATURDAY 16TH FEBRUARY

AFC Wulfrunians travelled to Loughborough University to take on the students on an unseasonably warm February afternoon. When the sides met at Castlecroft for the opening game of the season AFC won 1-0.

A healthy attendance of close to two hundred saw Loughborough take command of the early exchanges and after ten minutes there was a let off for AFC with Loughborough having a goal disallowed for a very tight offside decision, but as the half progressed AFC began to take control of the gameand went close to taking the lead firstly with Kyle Brady shooting narrowly over following a goal keeping error and then the keeper making a good save from a Jake Evans twenty five yard shot.

Close to half time AFC finally took the lead that their pressure deserved with Kyle Brady scoring with a smart header from a corner delivered by Angelo Franco.

The second half continued as the first half ended with AFC in control and they went close to increasing their lead withBrady just failing to connect with a free kick at the far post.

However, in the fifty sixth minute AFC paid the consequences for failing to turn their dominance into goals when following a short corner Matthew Olapo equalised for Loughborough following a short corner.

The game became more open as both teams chased a winner. Following good interplay between Jevons and Gregg down the left AFC went close to a second and then at the other end Dan Hanson went close for Loughborough with a header.

In the last ten minutes Loughborough looked the stronger, AFC were definitely disadvantaged because of their recent lack of match action.

Loughborough forced several corners with AFC hanging on, however their defence remained strong and the game ended all square, a fair result.
