Shepshed Dynamo 5 AFCW 5

AFC Wulfrunians fought back from 4-1 down at half time against Shepshed Dynamo to secure a remarkable 5-5 draw in their second visit to Leicestershire in the space of four days.

The home side had a great chance to go ahead in the opening minute when Joe Pheasant nodded a corner down to Jake Betts but his shot lacked power to beat keeper John Bateman.

Parity lasted just 18 minutes as Shepshed took the lead when Liam Read’s long free kick was hit goalwards first time by Shay Brennan and his mis-hit shot looped over everyone and dropped just under the crossbar.

The lead was doubled five minutes later as Brennan’s long range shot skipped up in front of Bateman and Amavir Sandhu was on hand to fire home the rebound.

Wulfs slowly worked their way into the game and had a couple of quick chances, first when Jake Webb’s touch let him down allowing the keeper to come out and smother at his feet and then Mitch Evans flung himself full length to head goalwards but keeper Denham Hinds dived to save comfortably.

The goal Wulfs desperately needed came in the 35th minute. Evans battled well to win possession out wide on the left and crossed deep for Turton to head home at the far post.

Wulfs’ joy was short lived as Shepshed regained their two goal advantage just two minutes later with Nelson Patrocinio firing home from close range after Hohn had headed across goal.

It was 4-1 three minutes before the interval when Patrocinio was brought down in the area and Brennan fired home his second from the penalty spot.

The management team called for a reaction in the second half and got it as Wulfs pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute. Tom Ray crossed in from the left and Turton fired home at the second attempt for his second of the game.

It was 4-3 just after the hour mark as Wulfs were awarded a generous penalty for handball which Webb converted.

The game was turned on it’s head as Wulfs drew level in the 68th minute, Turton completing his hat-trick after being picked out by Webb.

All of Wulfs hard work seemed to be in vain as Shepshed went back ahead twelve minutes from time with Corey Grantham cutting in from the left before firing low past the keeper.

Wulfs refused to be beaten and grabbed a share of the spoils two minutes from time when substitute Jumaane Meggoe scrambled past two defenders before rolling his shot into the bottom corner of the net.

FINAL SCORE: Shepshed Dynamo 5 AFC Wulfrunians 5.
