AFCW 0 Shawbury United 3

A first-half hat-trick from Benjie Robinson consigned AFC Wulfrunians to a heavy defeat and helped Shawbury climb off the bottom of MFL Premier Division for the first time since early November.

The result made it three defeats and a draw since the turn of the new year.

Overnight rain put the game in jeopardy but held off enough to get the game under way, albeit in heavy conditions.

It was Shawbury who started better and took a deserved 10th minute lead when Benjie Robinson latched on to a throughball from Matt Ballard and calmly slotted into the bottom corner of the net giving the keeper no chance.

Robinson then doubled the advantage in the 21st minute, again breaking clear of the Wulfs defence and beating the onrushing keeper before walking the ball into the empty net.

Wulfs tried to get something going with Joe Daley firing well wide after a Jake Webb corner had been headed out to him on the edge of the penalty area.

Robinson then completed his hat-trick on 37 minutes. Ballard was again the provider and this time Robinson rode a challenge before slotting the ball through the keeper’s legs.

Wulfs had a chance to pull a goal back just before the interval when Jake Webb ran on to Jacob Barnes’ ball over the top but his shot from a narrow angle was saved by keeper Ian Havard.

New signing Levi Andoh on for his debut in defence at the start of the second half but the second period was largely uneventful and scrappy. The best chance came when substitute Ben Cullen was put through on goal, but his shot was tipped round the post.

FINAL SCORE: AFC Wulfrunians 0 Shawbury United 3.
