South Normanton Athetic 1 AFCW 2

AFC Wulfrunians picked up a much needed three points away at South Normanton Athletic with a 2-1 victory but had to work all the way for it. Jake Webb and Ben Jevons had put Wulfs in control but John King’s strike just before the interval ensured they had to put in a battling second half display to secure the points.

Wulfs got off to a blistering start and shortly after Webb had fired a warning shot across the face of goal, he latched on to a ball over the top from Matt Hunt and fired home at the second attempt.

Matt Hearsey then forced a good save from the keeper and Craig Gregg fired over before Wulfs extended their lead in the 17th minute with Jevons heading home a Webb free kick.

Webb then saw his next effort tipped over the bar before the home side had a goal chalked off then Marcus Tugday was adjudged to have fouled his marker before heading home.

Athletic slowly worked their way in to the game and went close when Luke Crosby exchanged passes with Tudgay before firing wide of the near post.

Their improved play paid dividends six minutes before the interval when King converted Crosby’s low ball across goal.

The second half turned in to a real battle as the home side threw everything at Wulfs but they were met with a stiff resistance.

In fact it was Wulfs who went closest to scoring when Mitch Evans sent a first time volley across the face of goal but just wide of the target.

The home side had one final chance to level late on but Jordan Jones’ right wing corner was an inch too high for substitute Shane Newton who stretched but headed wide.

FINAL SCORE: South Normanton Athletic 1 AFC Wulfrunians 2.
