AFCW U14 v Leigh & Bransford Orient U14

AFC’s second home game of the season welcomed visitors Leigh & Bransford Badgers Orient to the CKW Stadium.

Last season saw AFC throw away a two goal half time lead as the sides ended with a share of the spoils, this time they were hoping to go one better despite a heavy injury list that included keeper Lewis Fellows, defenders Marcus Dias, Doug McClelland, Lawson Taylor. Kaviel Noel was also missing as he started a three match ban.

A high tempo start to the game made for tough work but it was AFC who were pulling the strings and took the lead on 14 minutes when Josh Cooke fed Connor Parker who finished with a well controlled loop over the keeper 1-0. Moments later Jacob Harper won the ball just inside the Leigh & Bransford half, the ball bounced nicely and Harper struck ridiculously long shot straight down the Leigh & Bransford keepers throat but he failed to deal with it and spilt the shot to make it 2-0.

AFC took control and the pace of the game slowed as AFC played a possession game that saw them through to half time.

Half Time 2-0

The second period started as the first finished with plenty of keep ball but AFC became sloppy and conceded after cheaply losing possession to give Leigh & Bransford hope 2-1.

Time began to tick away and tired legs became apparent, another goal would be crucial and in came on the shape of top scorer Lucas Buckley, Josh Cooke again the provider a ball over the top for Buckley to finish neatly in far corner 3-1.

The game was seemly over but in similar fashion to there first goal Leigh & Bransford grabbed a second to make it 3-2 setting up a nervy few final minutes.
