AFCW 1 Coventry United 0

A solitary second half strike from Jordan Harrison earned AFC Wulfrunians an excellent three points against high-flying Coventry United in a game played in blustery conditions.

After a lively opening to the game from both sides, it was Wulfs who had the first good opportunity when good link up play on the left saw the ball crossed in to an unmarked Kyle Brady but his downward header fell the wrong side of the post.

Coventry hit back with Aaron Wint diverting a low cross well over the bar and Thomas Glasscoe firing just over from the edge of the area.

As the half wore on, the visitors took control of the game and Wulfs keeper John Bateman was forced into a very good save as he had to get down low to keep out Craig Reid’s low skidding drive.

Wulfs survived to the half time interval and came out much the better side. The second half. Brodie Williams’ low shot from a Harrison cross was somehow kept out by keeper James Behan who saw it very late.

They had a great chance to go ahead just after the hour mark when Williams’ inswinging corner from the right was somehow put over the bar from close range by Tom Ray.

As the weather conditions worsened, Wulfs finally got the all-important breakthrough in the 74th minute. Parker fed a pass out right to Harrison and he cut inside before firing home a low shot across the keeper and into the far corner of the net.

Harrison then had a great chance to double the lead when he was put clean through by Williams but his shot was pushed away by the keeper.

Brady then produced an excellent turn on the edge of the area before firing a shot that deflected narrowly wide.

Coventry pushed hard for an equaliser as time was running out and went mightily close deep into injury time when Rob Prinzel found space in the area following a free kick but Wulfs skipper Ben Jevons somehow got back to deflect his effort over the bar and time ran out for the visitors who slipped to their first defeat of the season.

FINAL SCORE: AFC Wulfrunians 1 Coventry United 0.
