AFCW 0 Coleshill Town 2

AFC Wulfrunians fell 2-0 at home to Coleshill Town in a lively Bank Holiday matchup. Despite dominating the second half, Wulfrunians could not overcome the two-goal deficit amassed by a clinical first half performance from the visitors.

The first chance of the game fell Wulfs’ way, as Jordan Harrison carried the ball into the Coleshill penalty area before seeing his shot palmed away by Dominic Cotter.

It was the visitors, however, who took the lead in the 22nd minute. Ryan Edmunds saw his free kick from the edge of the area well saved by John Bateman, only for skipper Matthew Gardner to poke home from close range after a goalmouth scramble.

Their lead was doubled six minutes later, as Edmunds grabbed a goal of his own. Coleshill ‘keeper Cotter launched a long ball behind Wulfs’ defence to the forward, who took the ball around Bateman before rolling it into the empty net.

Wulfs had a fantastic chance to get back into the game at the start of the second half. Ben Jevons chested down a floated cross into the path of Matt Hunt, but the defender fired a glorious opportunity a long way over the bar.

Although Wulfs had the majority of possession in the second half, they could not convert this into chances with visitors set up well defensively and being difficult to break down defensively.

Wulfrunians will look to move on quickly from this result, as they face a visit from Heanor Town on Saturday.

FINAL SCORE: AFC Wulfrunians 0 Coleshill Town 2.
