Looe Bay Champions

AFC Wulfrunians under 13’s football team enjoyed a wonderful weekend of football at The Cornwall Soccer Festival 2017 tournament. Taking on nine other teams from around Britain over the bank Holiday Weekend. Challenges came from teams in Wales, The Midlands and the South and they proved to be worthy winners. Playing four games on the Saturday they won three and drew one putting themselves in a prime position for the Sunday challenge.

Wulfrunians lost their first match on the Sunday morning but this only galvanised the squad into raising their game and they then went onto win the next three to finish top of the league.  This set up an intriguing final against last year’s beaten finalists Cambrian and Clydach.  The Welsh team had also only lost one in the qualifying rounds and a competitive final was decided by two first half goals. Dan Lowe scored first with a shot from the left-hand side of the box into the goal keepers right corner. Shortly after captain Jay Harper pounced on a loose ball from a corner blasting into the net from close range. Having only conceded one goal all tournament the result was completely justified.

At the awards ceremony that Evening former England under 21 manager Peter Taylor, who presented them with the trophy, commented that “the players were a credit to their club, coaches and Wolverhampton”.
