Brocton 0 AFCW 5

AFC Wulfrunians took a huge step towards staying in the Midland Football League courtesy of a dominant 5-0 victory away to Brocton. The hosts played most of the game with 10 men and Wulfs took advantage by controlling from start to finish.

Their first goal came after just seven minutes, as Nick Turton played a brilliant ball across the box to Kyle Brady, who controlled well before firing low into the corner.

Brocton were reduced to 10 men shortly after, as Tom Vaughan was sent off for two forms of dissent within a minute of each other, after giving away a foul.

Wulfs doubled their lead after 20 minutes, with full back Joel Caines finding the net for the second time in a month. He latched onto another pinpoint Turton cross and applied a finish that a striker could be proud of.

Brady added his second of the game as Wulfs all-but wrapped the game up before half time. Turton broke down the left and fired a low cross that was met with a first-time finish by Brady, giving Turton his third assist of the game.

Any hopes of a second half resurgence from Brocton were killed when Wulfs added a fourth, five minutes after the interval. Jake Webb’s floating free kick was met by Matt Hunt with a header that left the ‘keeper with no chance.

The rout was completed in the final minute of injury time. Mitch McDonald picked up a poorly cleared corner and delivered a cross that was met with an impressive header into the roof of the net by Tom Grainger.

This win moves Wulfrunians out of the relegation zone and a fourth clean sheet in five games should fill them with confidence that survival is still achievable.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Bateman, McDonald, Caines, Palmer (Sedgemore 75), Waterhouse, Barnes, Brady (Brown 53), Ellis, Turton (Grainger 60), Webb, Hunt.
