Long Eaton United 2 AFCW 3

Marvin Robinson’s return to Derbyshire proved successful, the former Derby County striker netted two goals, to add to Jake Webb’s opener, as AFC Wulfrunians picked up a 3-2 win away at Long Eaton United.

Wulfs got off to the perfect start with a goal in the 2nd minute. Robinson held the ball up excellently before laying it off to Mitch McDonald who played a neat ball through for Webb to home in on goal and fire low past the keeper.

It got better still for Wulfs as they doubled their lead in the 18th minute, Robinson nipping in to intercepted an attempted back header and guiding the ball past the keeper with the outside of his right foot.

Robinson made it 3-0 in the 42nd minute, outjumping both goalkeeper and defender to loop in a header from Jake Sedgemore’s long free kick.

The home side grabbed a lifeline on the stroke of half-time, Rob McMormick slamming the ball home from close range after a bout of pinball in the 6 yard box following Paolo Piliero’s dangerous corner.

The home side came out firing at the start of the second half and Wulfs had to withstand a lot of pressure before McCormick added his second to reduce the arrears even further 12 minutes from time, nodding home from close range after Piliero’s corner had been headed back across goal by Michael Towey.

Wulfs held out without too much discomfort in the final 12 minutes to pick up a vital three points and make it four wins from their last five games.
