Quorn 2 AFCW 0

AFC Wulfrunians made the long midweek trip to Quorn and came back empty handed after a goal in either half from Callum Thompson and Liam Turner secured the points for the home side.

It was Wulfs who started brightest and had a great chance to go ahead on 8 minutes when Demetri Brown set Kyle Brady clear but his lob went over the keeper but also over the crossbar.

Jamie King then fired over the bar as Wulfs continued to dominate but Quorn slowly worked their way into the game and had their first chance when Thompson flashed a good ball across goal which just evaded the lunging Dom Brennan.

Quorn went closer still in the 26th minute when Brennan unleashed a long range shot that crashed back off the far post, Thompson just failing to convert the rebound.

The home side grabbed the opening goal eight minutes before the interval when substitute Reece Fyfe did well on the left before cutting a pass back for Thompson to side-foot home from just inside the area.

King had a great chance to equalise straight from the restart when Craig Gregg picked him out but his angled shot was well saved by Ryan Thacker in the Quorn goal.

The opening two minute of the second half proved crucial to the outcome of the game. Straight from the kick off Jake Sedgemore put Brown in the clear but his effort was well saved.

Less than one minute later Liam Turner delivered a ball in to the area at the other end which was headed clear to the edge of the area but the Quorn striker had continued his run to loop a header over the keeper and into the net.

Josh Moreton then prevented a third with a good save from Joe Hopewell’s free kick whilst a good Wulfs move saw Jake Webb pick out King with a good angled ball but his low cross just evaded the onrushing Brown.

Wulfs continued to press to the end with substitute Jordan Harrison well foiled by Thacker after being picked out by Sedgemore and Brown curling a shot wide of the target.

It wasn’t to be for Wulfs in a game that was won by the team that took their chances at crucial times.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Moreton, Ray, Caines, Rose-Laing, Gregg (Nesbitt 61), Barnes, McDonald (Harrison 73), Sedgemore, Brady (Webb 38), King, Brown.
