AFCW 0 St Andrews 4

AFC Wulfrunians slumped to a 4-0 defeat at home to high-flying league new boys St Andrews. Two goals in each half saw the Leicestershire- based side move up to second in the table whilst Wulfs remain down in 18th position.

Wulfs’ cause wasn’t helped by Jordan Perks an injury in the warm up and having to be replaced before the game had even started.

The visitors got off to a blistering start, going ahead as early as the fourth minute when Ash Day’s curling shot bounced back off the inside of the post and Shay Brennan was quickest to react to fire home the rebound.

The Drews lead was doubled five minutes later when Sam Hollis burst in to the area and went down after a challenge by Joel Caines. Day made no mistake from the resulting penalty.

It got worse for Wulfs when Mitch McDonald and Marvin Robinson were both forced off through injury midway through the first half.

Wulfs slowly worked their way in to the game and worked a couple of chances with Marcus Jackson and Kyle Brady firing shots just over the bar while,  at the other end, Eliot Putman’s deflected free kick skimmed the top of the crossbar.

Wulfs we’re thankful for Callum McFarlane’s last ditch tackle to prevent Brennan from adding his second but could do nothing when substitute Toby Warner fired home from close range in the 65th minute.

The rout was completed one minute in to injury time when Leon Doughty’s corner was superbly headed home by Joe Latham.

Wulfs will be hoping to get back on track when the travel to Coleshill Town next Saturday.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Beeson, Caines, Sedgemore, Rose-Laing, McFarlane, Barnes, McDonald (Webb 20), Ellis, Robinson (Gregg 36), Brady (Nesbitt 74), Jackson.
