AFC Wulfrunians first away league fixture saw a trip to face AFC Telford Utd. Telford ran out 3-0 winners in this fixture last season on day that was plagued with extreme weather conditions. This season Telford have so far won two out of two and so another tough fixture was in store for the Wulfs boys.
Wulfs started a little slow in what seems to be becoming an unwanted habit, but after riding out the opening minutes play Wulfs started to find their feet. Some nice football ensured and the Telford defense struggled to cope with Wulfs attacking play but after a couple of missed opportunities it was sheer tenacity that rewarded Wulfs with the opening goal. Man of the Match Matt Kilkenny won the ball in defense and dribbled put from the back before playing a lovely ball down the right hand side to feed Connor Parker through on goal, the onrushing keeper took advance to grasp Parkers loose first touch but Parker was on his toes as the keeper fumbled which Parker took full advantage off 0-1. Telford made a couple of substitutions in reaction to the goal but Wulfs football saw them control the lion share of the first half. A second Wulfs goal was more than deserved, Simon Cornaby played a nice through ball again down the right hand side for Ben Moore crossed low to provide a comfortable finish for Dan Lowe from close range.
Half Time 0-2
Wulfs started the second half as they finished the first putting much pressure on the Telford back line. Eashan Brackenbridge floated a deep free kick into the box which went undefended and was nicely controlled by Jay Sutherland who turned and smashed home to make it 0-3. Daniel Lowe netted his brace and Wulfs fourth with Jacob Harper getting the assist. Telford gave fight and scored with two excellent long range strikes to pull the score back to 2-4 and there direct and physical approach made Wulfs dig in hard. A tough battle to the finish made for a tense second period but Wulfs stuck together as a team to earn all three points at the finish.
Full Time 2-4
