Shepshed Dynamo 5 AFCW 1

AFC Wulfrunians crashed to a 5-1 defeat away at Shepshed Dynamo. Demetri Brown’s late goal proved only a consolation as the Leicestershire based side were never in any danger in blustery conditions.

The home side started the brighter but it was Wulfs who had a great chance to open the scoring in the 17th minute when Jake Webb did well down the left before cutting the ball back to Jamie King but he blazed over the bar from a good position.

The home side continued to press and opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Matt Langham played a good ball through the Wulfs defence and Michael Reeve fired home low past the keeper.

Their lead was doubled four minutes later when Liam Read beat keeper Josh Moreton to Levi Porter’s long ball over the top and nicked the ball past him before walking it into the net.

It was 3-0 just after the half hour mark. Karl Whymark’s right wing corner swirled in the wind and was bundled in by Niall Prendeville.

The game was effectively over in the final minute of the first half when Louis Guest made it 4-0 by firing home first time after Josh Morrall had delivered a low corner into the area.

Wulfs put in an improved performance in the second half and pulled a goal back in the 71st minute. Ryan Nesbitt’s corner from the right was headed against the crossbar by Demetri Brown, Nicky Dodd’s follow up was somehow blocked on the line but Brown pounced to fire home at the third attempt.

Any thoughts of a comeback were soon scuppered as Dynamo increased their lead ten minutes from time. Reeve picked up a loose ball 25 yards out and struck a superb shot into the top corner of the net.

It could have got worse for Wulfs as Dynamo were awarded a late penalty after Read had been brought down by Moreton. However, Langham’s fierce spot kick struck the underside of the crossbar before being cleared.

Wulfs had the final chance of the game when youngster Nesbitt beat his man on the right corner of the area before striking a fierce shot that the keeper pushed over the bar.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Moreton, Ray, Caines, Jackson, Dodd, Barnes, Gregg (Brown 61), Shepherd, Robinson, King (Nesbitt 65), Webb (McDonald 77).
