Lye Town 3 AFCW 2 (FA Cup)

AFC Wulfrunians let slip a two goal lead to crash out of the FA Cup at the Extra Preliminary round stage at the hands of fellow Midland Football League Premier side Lye Town.

First half goals from Jamie King and Jake Webb put Wulfs in control but a hat-trick from Jack Till sent the Stourbridge based side through.

Wulfs got off to the perfect start when King fired them ahead in the 11th minute with a perfectly taken 25 yard free kick and looked in complete control just after the half hour mark when Webb capitalised on a defensive slip after more good work from King.

Lye gave themselves a lifeline by pulling a goal back just before the interval with Till firing home from close range after Ben Billingham’s low drive had been blocked on the line by Jordan Perks.

A major flashpoint 20 minutes from time proved to be a big turning point in the game as an off the ball scuffle saw Lye defender Alex Dallison shown a straight red and Wulfs skipper Jake Sedgemore shown a second yellow to follow him in to the changing room.

The dismissals seemed to work in the visitor’s favour and they drew level ten minutes from time when a corner from the right was headed goalwards by Adam Meacham and Till nodded home from close range.

With the game looking set for a replay, Till completed his hat-trick after showing great determination and driving past the keeper to send Lye through to the next round.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Perks (Stewart 55), Caines, Sedgemore, Dodds, Ray (Harrison 86), Gregg, Shepherd, Robinson, King, Webb (McDonald 59).
