AFCW 0 Stourport Swifts 3

AFC Wulfrunians were handed their first league defeat of the season as they fell 3-0 in what was a comfortable victory for Stourprt Swifts. The hosts never got going and struggled to create chances against a resolute Stourport defence.

Swifts had their first chance after 19 minutes as Joe Phillips beat two players before firing past Josh Moreton, only for Tom Ray to block the shot on the line.

They eventually took the lead just beyond the half-hour mark, James Hill played a good ball to Andrew Hudson who curled his effort into the bottom corner.

The visitors doubled their lead a mere two minutes after the interval as Hudson added his second. The striker picked up a loose ball and turned round one defender before rolling past Moreton.

Wulfs could not muster their first chance until 15 minutes into the second half when substitute Jordan Harrison was left wide open on the penalty spot, but could only head Mitch McDonald’s cross well wide.

A penalty was awarded for Stourport eight minutes from time as the referee adjudged that Jacob Barnes had shoved Phillips in the back. Reece Shivlock stepped up and converted from the spot just past the outstretched fingertips of Moreton.

Harrison had a final chance late on for Wulfs but his effort was blocked on the line by Matthew Fulloway before being cleared.

Wulfrunians will look to move on quickly from this defeat as they travel to Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday for another important league match.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Moreton, Ray, Caines, Sedgemore (Shepherd 59), Dodd, Barnes, Brown, Rose-Laing, Robinson (Harrison 54), King, McDonald (Webb 65).
