Stourport Swifts 3 AFCW 1

AFC Wulfrunians fell to defeat in their final match of the season at the hands of Stourport Swifts. Despite looking threatening either side of half time, Wulfs’ depleted squad did not quite have enough to earn a result on the night.

The hosts took the lead after just seven minutes. A poor kick by Danny Tipton was picked up by Joe Phillips and he rounded the ‘keeper before rolling the ball into the empty net.

Phillips added a second for his side after some tidy play. He found some space out on the right-hand side and beat one player before firing low into the bottom corner.

Wulfs pulled a goal back just three minutes later as they made a push before half time. Jamie King’s corner was poorly cleared and Kyle Haynes struck a first time effort that flew in off the crossbar.

The pressure continued into the second half, as Demetri Brown and Jamie King linked up. Brown’s cross was met by King with a first time effort, but his shot rattled the crossbar before bouncing clear.

Stourport took the game away from the visitors in the dying moments as some miscommunication at the back allowed Jack Bailey to head the ball over Tipton, who was left stranded off his line.

Wulfrunians will now look forward to next season, where they will look to build on the foundations laid down this year.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: D Tipton, Stewart, Perks, Sedgemore, Jevons, Gregg, McDonald, Haynes (J Daley 56), Brown, King, Webb.
