Quorn 1 AFCW 0

A 29th minute own goal consigned AFC Wulfrunians to a disappointing 1-0 defeat away at Quorn.

In an open start to the game, Quorn were first to create a chance when Jamie Thuillier intercepted a pass and threaded a quick ball through to Courtney Meade but keeper Josh Moreton was off his line quickly to pull off a smart save.

Wulfs’ first sight of goal came soon after when a long throw was headed out to Mitch McDonald who struck a first time shot just over the bar.

The deadlock was broken on the 29th minute when Courtney Meade dispossessed Matt Hunt on the byline and fired a low ball in to the near post which took a couple of deflections off Wulfs defenders before going in off the underside of the bar despite Moreton’s best efforts to keep it out.

They could have doubled the lead shortly before half time when Laevi Oshungbure put Danny Bryans in the clear but he completely missed his kick with just the keeper to beat.

As the game wore on, Wulfs became more of an attacking force and home keeper Ryan Thacker pulled off a good save to deny Jamie King after he had been picked out by an excellent cross-field ball by Vinny Aulak.

Thacker denied King again shortly after he received a square pass and from Ben Jevons and struck a fierce shot but the big keeper got down well to save.

More late Wulfs pressure saw Jevons pushed up front and he went close on three occasions with his head, the last of which was a far post header from McDonald’s corner that scraped the outside of the post.

The action continues to come thick and fast as Wulfs return to Leicestershire on Tuesday night to take on fourth-placed Shepshed Dynamo.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Moreton, Howells, Perks, Rose-Laing (Aulak 48), Waterhouse, Hunt, Gregg, McDonald, Stewart (D Tipton 90), King, Jevons.
