Continental Star 1 AFCW 4

It was back to winning ways for AFC Wulfrunians, having being held to draws twice in midweek, as they recorded a comfortable 4-1 victory over 10-man Continental Star.

Wulfs took the lead after just four minutes in very fortunate circumstances. A ball cross his own box left Star’s Dwayne Robinson in trouble, and his attempted clearance struck the leg of Joel Ayettey before rolling into the net.

Ayettey could have doubled the lead just five minutes later as another mistake allowed him to break clear of the defence, but this time he fired his shot straight at the ‘keeper.

The hosts levelled the game after 17 minutes. Jordan Willock’s cross from the left was met by Daniel Chisanga, who lifted the ball over Josh Moreton and into the net.

Jake Webb put the visitors back in front with the final kick of the first half. He picked the ball up on the right-hand side and cut inside before unleashing a powerful left foot shot that flew into the net off the inside of the post.

Wulfs gained a two goal cushion just two minutes after the break. A long ball was flicked on by Ayettey, Jamie King ran onto it and fired his shot low and hard into the bottom corner.

Continental Star were reduced to 10 men on the hour mark when Franklin Hazell was dismissed for raising his hands in the direction of Jordan Perks after the ball had gone out of play.

The game was rounded off for Wulfs in the final five minutes, as Matt Ellis grabbed his second goal in as many games. A floating corner was headed on by Matt Hunt and Ellis struck a sweet volley that rifled into the roof of the net.

Wulfrunians will now look to record their first back-to-back wins in 2016 as they host local side Lye Town in a league clash next Saturday.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Moreton, Ganderton, Perks (Aulak 77), Palmer, Sedgemore, Hunt, Rose-Laing, Ellis, Ayettey, Webb (Gregg 45), King.
