Bardon Hill 3 AFCW 3

AFC Wulfrunians played out a goal-filled 3-3 draw away to Bardon Hill in a game played in conditions that got increasingly difficult as the game went on. In a game where both sides had their fair share of chances, either side could have grabbed all three points on another day.

The visitors took the lead after just three minutes, as Luke Edwards benefitted from an awkward bounce and was brought down in the box by Ben Jevons. Danny Edwards’ spot kick was saved by Josh Moreton, but he fired the rebound in from close range.

Wulfs levelled midway through the first half. Ashley Stewart threaded Jamie King in behind the defence and the striker fired a powerful effort past the ‘keeper.

King almost added a second two minutes later, as he met an excellent cross from David Howells, but his downward header was well saved by keeper Ben Gough.

The hosts pulled ahead again just before the break. Alex Johnson picked the ball up on the edge of the area and hit a powerful effort that Moreton could only palm into the net.

Mitch McDonald grabbed an equaliser just after the interval as he capitalised on a defensive mistake before lifting the ball over the ‘keeper from just inside the area.

Wulfs took the lead just eight minutes later courtesy of a penalty of their own. Matt Hunt was held in the area from a free kick by Lee Attenborough and Jake Sedgemore calmly slotted the penalty into the corner.

The equaliser for Bardon Hill came with just five minutes to go. Luke Edwards added a goal of his own in fortunate circumstances, as his fierce shot from just inside the area took a freak bounce over Moreton’s outstretched arm and flew in to the corner.

Wulfrunians now continue their run to the end of the season as they take the trip to Quorn on Saturday in a bid for three points.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Moreton, Perks, Sedgemore, Rose-Laing, Jevons, Hunt, Gregg, McDonald (Aulak 82), Stewart (Waterhouse 75), King, Howells.
