AFCW 2 Sporting Khalsa 2

A fantastic second half fight back from AFC Wulfrunians earned them a good point against Sporting Khalsa, despite being reduced to ten men for the entire second half. Many players stepped up with excellent performances in the face of adversity, with standout efforts from Craig Gregg and Ben Jevons.

It was Wulfs who took the lead after just five minutes. Jake Sedgemore’s floated free kick found Chris Waterhouse, who was left unmarked at the back post and headed powerfully into the bottom corner.

The visitors levelled the game 10 minutes before half time from a well-worked set piece. Tesfa Robinson headed a free kick across the area and David Meese volleyed in past Josh Moreton from close range.

Wulfrunians were reduced to 10 men in extraordinary fashion immediately after half time. Nathan Rose-Laing was dismissed after the teams came back out for the second half, despite the alleged incident in a coming together of players from both sides happening before the break.

Khalsa again went ahead four minutes from time with what looked to be the winning goal. A corner was cleared to Callum Cooper 30 yards out, he brought the ball down before firing a powerful left-footed strike that cannoned in off the bar.

The equaliser came for Wulfs in the dying moments of injury time. Another Jake Sedgemore free kick found its way to the back post where Craig Gregg was waiting; he squared it to Ben Jevons who managed to poke it home to seal a dramatic point for the home side.

Wulfrunians will look to take the momentum from this fantastic result into their next game, as they take the trip to Stourport Swifts on Saturday.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Moreton, Ganderton (Aulak 72), Sedgemore, Palmer (Rose-Laing 8), Waterhouse, Hunt, Gregg, Howells, McDonald (Ray 88), King, Jevons.
