AFCW 0 Alvechurch 4

It was a disappointing day for AFC Wulfrunians as league leaders Alvechurch handed them a comprehensive 4-0 defeat. The visitors had complete control throughout the game as Wulfs fell to a second consecutive league defeat.

Alvechurch could have been ahead within the first minute as Mark Smith put Jordan Nadat one-on-one, but he fired an easy chance wide of the post.

They did then take the lead after six minutes, however, as some good build up play allowed Josh March to break clear of the Wulfs defence, and he fired into the top corner.

It could easily have been 2-0 within five minutes, as James Spray flicked the ball through for Nadat, but a brilliant last-ditch challenge from Ben Jevons denied him.

Nadat did grab himself a goal shortly after this, as March turned provider. The winger slipped a clever ball through for him and Nadat made no mistake as he fired powerfully underneath Josh Moreton.

The striker almost added his second when he leapt to connect with a floated cross from Chris Field, but his header flew over the bar.

The lead was extended further just after the half time interval. Field played a long cross-field ball to Spray, who took it down well before excellently finishing past Moreton’s outstretched hand.

Two substitutes combined in the last five minutes to wrap up the victory for the visitors. Danny Ashton’s ball was flicked across goal by Connor Deards and Karl Edwards was on hand to fire it into an empty net.

This is just the sixth time that Wulfrunians have failed to score in the league this season, and they will be hoping that more goals will be coming their way on Wednesday, as they take the long trip to face high-flying Heanor Town.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Moreton, Sedgemore, Howells, Rose-Laing, Jevons, Hunt, Gregg, Ganderton (Palmer 58), King, Webb (Waterhouse 58), Ellis.
