AFC Wulfrunians welcomed Austrey Rangers to Castlecroft in the Quarter-Final of the League Cup. The sides meet early in the season and played out a completive and entertaining game of football that ended a tight 3-2 to Wulfs so both sides were under no illusion of the task in hand.
The game got underway and was straight into life as Jordan Crump latched onto James Debneys ball and finished with a superb left footed strike from the edge of the Austrey penalty area to give Wulfs an early advantage 1-0. As in the first meeting between the sides there was some good football on display with both sides attacking with pace going forward without creating anything clear cut in terms of chances. Half Time 1-0.
As the second half action got going it was Austrey who go on top as they pushed hard for an equalizer. Wulfs stood strong and with a little luck rode the pressure. Totally against the run of the game Wulfs doubled their lead Ben Moore providing for Jordan Crumps brace 2-0. Within minutes Wulfs grabbed a third and looked to have put the game beyond Austrey, Jordan Crump this time setting up Dan Lowe for make it 3-0. Credit to Austrey as they continued to fight and clawed back the game scoring twice in quick succession to make the score line 3-2. James Hale was then on hand to pull off a fine double match winning save! Wulfs became scrappy often putting their foot through the ball as they bundled over the line and into the semi-finals. Final score 3-2.
