AFCW 2 Bardon Hill 2

AFC Wulfrunians began their home December campaign with a disappointing result as they squandered a 2-0 lead and had to settle for a draw with Bardon Hill.

It took Wulfs 30 minutes to get the breakthrough, but it eventually came through an own goal. A good run down the right-hand side by Jake Webb allowed him to curl an inviting ball into the area and it was attacked by Ben Jevons, but Lee Attenborough was unfortunate to force it into his own net.

Some more impressive work from Webb saw Wulfs double their lead two minutes after the break. His pressing forced a mistake in the Bardon Hill defence that gave Ricky Anslow the space to fire a first-time effort past Ryan Swift into the bottom corner.

A penalty offered the visitors a way back into the game shortly after Anslow’s goal. Luke Edwards took the ball into the box going down under challenge from John Hill.

Stephen Hart made no mistake from the spot, as he calmly stepped up and sent Danny Tipton the wrong way.

An impressive save from Tipton prevented Bardon Hill from levelling the game just minutes later. Edwards again took the ball into the box and this time hit a powerful shot that looked destined for the bottom corner, but Tipton was equal to it as he pushed it onto the post.

Jamie King had the opportunity to give Wulfs a more comfortable lead after 68 minutes as he latched onto a long Tipton kick that was left by everybody, but his powerful effort was kept out by Swift.

Edwards eventually levelled the game with six minutes to go. Leon Fray delivered a low cross that the striker controlled before firing in on the turn.

Wulfrunians will look to end their run of three games without a win next week, as they take the trip up to Alsager Town for a huge game in the Third Round of the F.A. Vase.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Perks, Aulak, Sedgemore, Hill, Waterhouse, Webb (Minto 90), Palmer, Anslow (Brady 78), King, Jevons.
