Quorn 1 AFCW 2 (FA Vase)

AFC Wulfrunians made it three wins in a row as they overcame fellow Midland Football League Premier Division side Quorn to progress to the Third Round of the FA Vase. In a tight affair, goals from Ben Jevons and Jake Sedgemore were enough to see Wulfs through.

It was, however, the hosts who took the lead in a first half that lacked many chances. Jacob Wright collected the ball on the right-hand side and delivered a perfect cross for Liam Turner, who placed his header perfectly in the bottom corner.

Wulfs then levelled at the perfect time, as they scored on the stroke of half time. Sedgemore played a ball back to Jevons on the edge of the area, and his powerful effort left Ryan Thacker wrong footed as it flew into the corner.

Shortly after the break, Quorn were reduced to ten men, as goalkeeper Thacker was sent off. A ball over the top was met by Kyle Brady, he did just enough to knock it past Thacker, who made contact with him in the area and was perhaps unfortunately sent off for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity.

Former West Bromwich Albion shot-stopper Russell Hoult came on as a replacement in goal, but he couldn’t do anything to keep out a trademark Sedgemore penalty.

Hoult did manage to prevent Wulfs running away with the game, however, as me made saves to deny Sedgemore and Ricky Anslow. First, the captain was put through by Jevons, but the ‘keeper stood tall and managed to claw away the shot.

Late on in the game, Anslow could have put the game completely beyond doubt as he got in behind the defence, but Hoult was again on hand to deny him as he made another good save.

Wulfs return to league action on Saturday as they host Stourport Swifts.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Perks, Aulak (Ganderton 5), Sedgemore, Skedgel, Hunt, Webb (Stewart 88)Gregg, Rose-Laing, Brady (Anslow 85), Gregg, Jevons.
