AFC Wulfrunians welcomed top of the table Lane Head to Castlecroft for the latest mouth-watering MJPL match. Wulfs having been beaten twice in two games were looking to regain the form that saw six wins from six but Lane Head provided a tough test with their form seeing them unbeaten in five games.

The game got underway with the bitter cold and high winds setting difficult conditions for the match but a fine Wulfs display from start to finish kept the spectators warm throughout the game. Wulfs dominated play winning first and second balls converting into some neat pass and move play without penetrating a tight Lane Head defence. A rare Lane Head attack in twenty first minute provided a corner that Wulfs failed to clear and the loose ball was smashed home from close range to give the visitors a 0-1 lead against the run of play. Wulfs picked up where they left off and continued the superb display and came close just before the break but Sol Sahar’s effort went wide of the far post. Half Time 0-1.

The second half saw the introduction of new Wulfs signing Daniel Lowe which made a real difference in the final third of pitch. Wulfs excellent first half display continued but now had additional thrust in attacking areas which started create opportunities as they searched for an equalizing goal. Wulfs knocked at the Lane Head door as chances went high, wide or saved by confident keeper but it just was going to be one of those days. Lane Head snatched a second goal again against the run of play with an attack down the left that was finished off with a superb strike from the edge of the Wulfs area that clipped the inside of the far post 0-2. A superb display from the Wulfs lads with a result that doesn’t tell the storey. Full Time 0-2.
