Bilston Town 1 AFCW 3 (FA Vase)

AFC Wulfrunians progressed to the first round of the FA Vase after a comfortable victory over near neighbours Bilston Town. After going in at half time with the lead, Wulfs dominated the second half to secure an impressive win.

Wulfs flew out of the blocks, and could have been ahead within two minutes. Jordan Perks made an impressive run down the right before cutting the ball back to Ben Jevons; he beat a man but saw his powerful effort strike the bar.

They did take the lead shortly after, however, as their early pressure paid off. Jake Sedgemore delivered an excellent cross from the left hand side and Ricky Anslow leapt above everybody to flick his header into the top corner.

An impressive counter attack saw the hosts level the game after 33 minutes. A long, hopeful ball from the Bilston defence was impressively chased down by Lewis Archer, who then made no mistake as he fired past Danny Tipton.

A trademark free kick from Jake Sedgemore saw Wulfs take a lead into the break. After Anslow was brought down on the edge of the area, the skipper struck a low effort past a poorly placed wall and left the ‘keeper with no chance.

Although Archer had another chance saved by Tipton just after the break, it was Wulfs who extended their lead. A good cross by Cameron Bridgen was chested down by Jevons, who then had enough time to pick his spot as he fired calmly past the ‘keeper.

Wulfs were denied by the post on successive attacks as they looked to put the game beyond doubt. First, Mark Ganderton slipped Anslow through but he could only strike the post. Then some good work by Jake Webb saw him also have a chance at goal with five minutes remaining. He dribbled impressively past two Bilston defenders, only be see his shot ricochet back off the post.

Wulfrunians’ next fixture sees them return to league action, as they host Boldmere St. Michaels next weekend.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Perks, Bridgen, Sedgemore (Ganderton 68), Hill, Hunt, Gregg (Webb 73), Palmer, Anslow (Brady 77), King, Jevons.
