AFC Wulfrunians found themselves at home for a second match on the bounce, this time welcoming Austrey Rangers to Castlecroft. Wulfs ran out 2-1 winners during a pre-season friendly and were today expecting a tough test against a useful Austrey side.

Both teams started nervy and after the opening few minutes it was Austrey who started to have the better of the game. However against the run of play Wulfs took the lead with some good play down the left hand side that ended up with Crump pulling the ball back for Wright-Tennant to drill home. 1-0. Austrey continued to play there game and deservedly equalized with a fabulous strike from the right hand side that gave Wulfs keeper Cornaby no chance. Austrey then took a 2-1 lead when they broke through one on one, the forwards shot drilled through Cornabys legs who got something on the ball but was unable to prevent it crossing the line. Austrey added a third before the break giving them a two goal cushion at the half time whistle.

Wulfs like giving themselves a challenge and came out second half with a different attitude. A high spirited Ben Moore was controversially brought down in the penalty area and earned Wulfs a way back into the game as Cooke confidently converted the spot kick 2-3. Wulfs started to pile on the pressure creating plenty of dangerous attacks and looking for that all important leveller. A dangerous corner wasn’t cleared by Austrey and after some scrappy play Jacob Harper managed to dig out a close range shot which was parried by the Austrey keeper back into Wright-Tennants path who smashed home the rebound and the vital equalizer 3-3. Wulfs high pressure paid off as the game was stretched and a classic Cooke through ball to Jordan Crump who ran clear of the Austrey defender and smashed home the winner to claim victory. Full Time 4-3

A great advert for junior football with some exciting attacking play throughout by two very good competitive sides.
