AFCW 3 Westfields 2

AFC Wulfrunians bounced back from Saturday’s disappointing result as they recorded a vital 3-2 victory over Westfields. Despite falling behind, Wulfs battled back and held on for an impressive win.

It took just seven minutes for the visitors to take the lead- Craig Jones’ long ball was chested down by Jamie Cuss and he took it past one defender before placing a shot past Danny Tipton.

Within minutes, Westfields almost doubled their lead. Jones could have added a goal for himself, but his powerful free kick struck the base of the post.

A great spell of football resulted in Wulfs levelling the game around the half hour mark. Jamie King played a long ball that was excellently brought down by Ricky Anslowhe took it past one man before firing past the unmoved Jon Pugh.

Wulfrunians took the lead for the first time 19 minutes into the second half. Anslow and King linked up again, this time being it was King who applied the finishing touch as he smashed a powerful effort past the ‘keeper from the edge of the area.

However, the visitors once again levelled, albeit in fortunate circumstances. Jones struck a hopeful effort from long range that took a big deflection that left Tipton diving the wrong way.

It took just one minute for Wulfs to retake the lead, courtesy of a defensive mistake. Kyle Brady charged down a poor backwards header from Sam Plane, which caused the ‘keeper to spill it and left Brady with a simple finish.

Brady almost added another in the final minutes as he again caused trouble for the defenders. This time he fired under the ‘keeper but it was hooked clear by Kane Kahaki as it rolled towards the goal.

Wulfrunians will look to take the momentum from this win into Saturday’s game, as they take the trip to Brocton for a league game.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Ganderton, Perks, Sedgemore, Hill, Hunt, Gregg (Bridgen 93), Palmer, Anslow (Brady 66), King (Webb 83), Jevons.
