AFCW 3 Boldmere St Michaels 2

Skipper Jake Sedgemore penned the perfect birthday gift as his late spot kick helped AFC Wulfrunians take all three points from their clash with Boldmere St. Michaels. In an action-packed encounter, Wulfs hard work right to the final minute was rewarded with a late winner.

The visitors took the lead after just eight minutes after some confusion at the back for Wulfs. A long ball caused some problems for the defence and John Hill’s weak header back to Danny Tipton was latched onto by Jason Holmes, who fired powerfully past the ‘keeper.

Within two minutes, however, Wulfs were level. Ricky Anslow picked the ball up on the right and drove into the box; he beat two players before sending Lewis Fenney the wrong way as his shot took a deflection.

A stunning strike from Jake Webb saw the hosts go in front just six minutes later. Jake Sedgemore’scorner was brought down by Matt Hunt and he played it to Webb, who turned one defender before smashing a left-footed effort into the top corner.

Boldmere were allowed back into the game just after half time, as Chrisma Agbonlahor took advantage of another defensive mix up. A lack of communication between Hunt and Tipton saw them both go for the same ball, which left the striker with an empty net as he calmly fired home.

A great opportunity on the break almost saw Boldmere grab a victory in the late stages. Charlie Morris’ ball in behind the defence was met by Ryan Dean, but some excellent defending from Jordan Perks prevented him from getting a clean shot off, and Tipton gathered routinely.

Wulfrunians’ winning goal came with five minutes to go and was well-deserved. Kyle Minto flicked the ball up in the area and Jack Westbrook handled it. Sedgemore made no mistake as he sent Fenney the wrong way to secure the win.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Perks, Bridgen (Waterhouse 68), Sedgemore, Hill, Hunt, Gregg, Ganderton (Brady 75), Anslow (Minto 84), Webb, Jevons.
