AFCW 0 Highgate United 3

AFC Wulfrunians can consider themselves unfortunate as they fell 3-0 to Highgate United despite playing some high-quality football and creating numerous chances. They also had to finish the game with just nine men, as both Jordan Perks and Ben Jevons were sent off.

Wulfs played some excellent football in the opening 30 minutes with Craig Gregg’s first time snapshot just over the bar the best of their efforts but it was the visitors took the lead with their first real chance of the game. A long free kick into the box was poorly cleared and Lei Brown held off a defender before firing past Danny Tipton.

On the stroke of half time their lead was doubled. Another free kick was launched into the box, this time by Nathan Pulisciano, and Tipton, under pressure, failed to collect it cleanly as he rushed out. Brown was on hand again and he seized the opportunity to fire into an empty net.

Wulfs had two great chances to get back into the game at the start of the second half. First Jake Webb should have done better with a header after Ricky Anslow’s cross had been palmed into his path by keeper Bradley Catlow and then a poor clearance from the ‘keeper left him stranded on the edge of the area. Richie Palmer picked out Jamie King with a ball across the box, but he blazed over from the edge of the area.

The hosts were reduced to ten men after 63 minutes. The ball fell loose on the edge of Wulfs’ area and Jordan Perks went in hard to win it, but was adjudged to have used excessive force as he was sent off for a foul on Connor Mooney.

Within minutes, the game was taken away from Wulfs as Brown completed his hat trick. Mooney played a low ball to him across the box, and he showed great skill to beat a defender before curling an effort past Tipton into the top corner.

To add to their troubles, Wulfs received another red card with 15 minutes to go when Ben Jevons was shown a second yellow card for apparent simulation as he attempted to avoid an oncoming defender to end any hopes that they had of a comeback.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Ganderton, Perks, Sedgemore, Hill, Waterhouse, Gregg (King 45), Palmer, Anslow (Brady 76), Webb (Stewart 76), Jevons.
