Highgate United 1 AFCW 0

AFC Wulfrunians fell to just their second league defeat of the season as they came from Highgate United as 1-0 losers. In a fiery game Wulfs had their fair share of chances, but a solitary Shane Benjamin goal was enough to give Highgate the win.

Wulfs had the best chance of the first half, courtesy of a well-worked set piece. Jake Sedgemore’s near post corner was met by Ben Jevons, his scuffed effort fell to Roy Chatterjee but he mishit his shot and it ended up closer to the corner flag.

The hosts took the lead shortly after the break with their first chance of the game. Dale Taylor picked the ball up on the right hand side before beating a man and seeing his shot saved. Shane Benjamin latched onto the rebound and forced it in from close range.

Two chances in quick succession almost saw Wulfs level the game. Jevons flicked a long ball over the top of the defence that was met by Kyle Brady, but his volley was excellently tipped away by Bradley Catlow.

Brady then nearly turned the provider; his cross from deep was met by Jevons with a powerful header but Catlow was again on hand to claw the effort away.

Highgate almost took the game beyond Wulfs with a chance that came from a counter attack as Wulfs piled the late pressure on. A cross field ball bounced nicely for Benjamin and his volley left Tipton unmoved, only for it to rattle the crossbar and bounce harmlessly away.

Wulfrunians will look to bounce back from this result immediately, as they host Walsall Wood in the league on Saturday.
