AFCW 2 Pershore Town 1 (FA Vase)

Richard Palmer struck a last minute winner to send AFC Wulfrunians through to the second qualifying round of the FA Vase but only after a dour struggle against MFL division one side Pershore Town. Jake Sedgemore had put Wulfs ahead from the penalty spot but Jacob Snape levelled matters before Palmer settled the tie.

The visitors had the first chance of the game when Simeon Smith nipped in to intercept an attempted headed back pass, he lifted his effort over the keeper but also over the bar.

Wulfs slowly began to create chances of their own with Jamie King and Jordan Perks both testing the keeper before they took the lead in the 27th minute. King’s mazy run into the penalty area was halted illegally and Sedgemore made no mistake from the spot.

Pershore were awarded a penalty of their own just four minutes later when Smith was bundled over but Danny Tipton kept out the big striker’s initial effort and then got up to save the follow up when Smith looked certain to score.

The visitor’s continued to push forward and got their reward with an equaliser in first half injury time. Ellis Blakemore provided a neat throughball to Snape and he coolly slid the ball past the onrushing keeper.

The second half was poor with few chances. Of the chances on offer, Craig Gregg shot just wide from the corner of the area for Wulfs while Mark Hands struck a 25 yard free kick just wide of the target for the visitors.

With the game looking set for extra time, Wulfs struck a winner out of nowhere. Gregg picked the ball up in the inside right channel and squared to Palmer who fired home from just outside the area.

Wulfs can now look forward to a local derby away at Bilston Town in the next round at the beginning of next month.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Perks, Sedgemore, Ganderton (Bridgen 45), Hill, Hunt, Gregg, Rose-Laing (Palmer 45), Stewart (Webb 71), King, Jevons.
