AFCW 2 Romulus 0 (FA Cup)

AFC Wulfrunians eased in to the first qualifying round of the FA Cup after a 2-0 victory against EvoStick League Division One side Romulus. A goal in either half from Ben Jevons and Ricky Anslow was enough to set up a local derby away at Sporting Khalsa in the next round.

It was a very cautious opening with long range efforts from Jamie King and Jordan Perks the only real goal attempts.

Romulus should have taken the lead in the 36th minute when striker Henry Eze nipped in to intercept an attempted back pass and round the keeper but shot wide under pressure from the back-tracking John Hill when he should really have scored.

This miss proved costly as Wulfs went ahead two minutes before the interval. King delivered an inswinging corner from the right which Jevons headed home emphatically at the far post.

Wulfs continued to match their higher league opponents and increased their lead in the 65th minute. King played a neat ball in the right channel for Craig Gregg and he squared the ball to Anslow and he spun his marker before firing in from 10 yards out.

Romulus tried to hit back but keeper Danny Tipton pulled off an excellent point blank save to deny substitute Joel Grandison and Luke Bottomer fired over when he should really have hit the target.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Perks, Bridgen, Ganderton (Rose-Laing 80), Hill, Hunt, Gregg, Palmer, Anslow (Stewart 87), King, Jevons.
