AFCW 0 Boldmere St Michaels 3

AFC Wulfrunians failed to make it three wins in a row as they were comprehensively beaten at home by a strong Boldmere St. Michaels outfit. A goal either side of half time and one late on saw Wulfs condemned to just their second defeat in seven games.

The visitors had the first chance after 24 minutes. Charisma Agbonlahor floated in a cross from deep that was met by Ben Wilkinson, but Jono Brown dived low to his right and managed to impressively force it over the bar.

There was just one minute left until the break when Boldmere went ahead. A long ball from the defence was misjudged by Ryan Talbot on the egde of the Wulfs area, with Agbonlahor capitalising on the mistake as he fired a half volley into the bottom corner.

Talbot made up for his earlier mistake by preventing Boldmere pulling further ahead with some impressive last ditch defending. Roland Agbor’s free kick was met by Wilkinson, whose header looped over Brown, but Talbot managed to race back to hook it off the line.

Agbonlahor turned provider as his side doubled their lead just after the interval. He collected the ball on the edge of the area and laid it off to Wilkinson- who made no mistake as he struck his effort under the body of the diving Brown.

The win was secured three minutes from time, with Agbor finally getting on the scoresheet. Brown pushed out Agbonlahor’s low free kick; Agbor was the first to react to the loose ball and was rewarded with a simple tap in.

Wulfrunians now move onto their penultimate away game of the season with the long trip to Loughborough University. They will be looking to continue their impressive late-season away form, which has seen them win their last three games away from the Castlecroft Stadium.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: J Brown, Howells (Brady 82), Jones, Sedgemore, Skedgel, Talbot, McDonald (Marsh 75), Palmer, D Brown, Rose-Laing (Bood 68), King.
