Kirby Muxloe 1 AFCW 0

A superb 25 yard strike from Ryan Seal condemned AFC Wulfrunians to a second successive defeat, this one away at Kirby Muxloe.

An evenly contested first half saw the home side first to threaten the goal when Tom McGlinchey’s free kick was diverted goalwards by Dan Sheehan before being cleared back out to McGlinchey. His second cross was headed straight at keeper Danny Tipton by Nathaneal McIntosh.

Wulfs’ first sight of goal came shortly after when Nathan Rose-Laing released Josh Jones on the overlap and his deep cross was headed across goal by Mitch McDonald but was cleared just before Liam Bood could pounce.

McGlinchey tested Tipton in the 25th minute with a stinging 20 yard volley that the big keeper pushed behind for a corner.

At the other end McDonald pounced on a scuffed back pass by Adam Hohn but his shot from a narrow angle went well wide.

McGlinchey went close for Kirby again shortly before the interval when his fierce free kick was pushed away by Tipton.

Wulfs started the second half on the front foot with Ryan Talbot’s low cross set back by Demetri Brown for Bood to in fire a low shot which saw keeper Warren Butlin get down well to save.

A decisive 60 seconds just before the hour mark turned the game. First Dave Asbury’s first time shot from a Jake Sedgemore corner was deflected on to the crossbar and from the resulting corner it was Kirby who took the lead following a quick breakaway with Seal applying a fine long range finish.

Substitute Andy Thompson almost provided an immediate equaliser when he burst on to a mis-hit back pass but Butlin did well to foil him.

Another substitute, Jack Marsh, had the chance to grab the glory with his first touch of the game after Thompson had pulled the ball back to him but he side footed his shot wide of the target.

With Wulfs throwing everything forward, Kirby continued to look dangerous on the break with McGlinchey twice striking the foot of the post on the closing stages but they had already done enough to secure victory.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Jones, Talbot, Sedgemore, Hill, Asbury, Rose-Laing (Marsh 75), Palmer, Bood (Brady 87), D Brown (Thompson 66), McDonald.
