AFCW 0 Walsall Wood 3

AFC Wulfrunians fell to a convincing 3-0 defeat at home against an impressive Walsall Wood side. Joey Butlin grabbed a brace and skipper Harry Harris added the other for the visitors.

The first chance fell to Wulfs after just 10 minutes. Demetri Brown squared the ball to Liam Bood on the edge of the area, he nutmegged a defender before firing an effort towards goal, which MariuszKisiel forced away.

Jamie King could have also put them ahead early on in his return to the club. He struck a low free kick which skidded along the wet surface but Kisiel managed to deflect it up and on to the top of the bar.

It was the visitors, however, who took the lead after 33 minutes. Craig Deakin drilled the ball in from the right and Butlin volleyed it low and hard into the bottom corner.

Just four minutes later, the lead was doubled courtesy of a great strike by Harris. Corey Currithers floated a ball across from the left and Harris hit a fantastic volley that flew out of the reach of Danny Tipton.

Deakin could have put the visitors further aheadjust after the break. He robbed possession from King in Wulfs’ half and hit a speculative effort that rattled the post.

Wulfs’ best chance to get back in the game came from an unlikely source. Bood hit a low cross from the left and defender John Hill threw himself at it, only for Kisiel to pull off an impressive save from close range.

Wood pulled out of sight with a third goal after 67 minutes. Both of their earlier goalscorers combined as Butlin met Harris’ corner to add his second of the game.

Although Wulfrunians didn’t quite have enough to match the visitors in this game, they will look to bounce back immediately on Saturday as they take the long trip to face Quorn.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Jones (Marsh 79), Talbot, Sedgemore, Hill, Asbury, Robertson (McDonald 56), Palmer, Bood (Perks 65), D Brown, King.
