Lye Town 1 AFCW 3

AFC Wulfrunians moved up to 8th place after a terrific 3-1 at league leaders Lye Town. Ryan Talbot and Liam Bood gave Wulfs a two goal lead before substitute Demetri Brown made sure of the victory after Ricky Anslow had pulled a goal back for the hosts.

Wulfs got off to the perfect start, taking the lead as early as the fourth minute when Talbot headed home Mitch McDonald’s super deep right wing cross.

Gradually Lye began to build a head of steam with Scott Gennard hooking a shot straight at keeper Danny Tipton and Anslow firing straight at the keeper after a powerful burst into the area.

Anslow then turned provider as he slid a neat ball through to Ben Jevons but he could only shoot into the side-netting from a narrow angle.

Things took a turn for the worse for Wulfs when Jacob Craner was stretchered off with a knee injury but they regrouped to double their lead seven minutes into the second half. McDonald was again the provider as he slid a neat ball through for Bood to fire home at the second attempt after Damien Stevens had saved his initial effort.

Lye responded within two minutes as Anslow fired home a 25 yard free kick after he himself had been bundled over and they continued t0 push hard looking for an equaliser.

Anslow then forced a save from Tipton after latching on to a nod down from Jevons but Wulfs secured the points with a crucial third goal eight minutes from time. Jordan Perks released Nathan Rose-Laing in the inside right position and his low cross was converted by Demetri Brown at the near post.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Jones, Talbot, Sedgemore, Hill, Asbury, Perks, Palmer, Bood (D Brown 76), Craner (Rose-Laing 45), McDonald.
