AFCW 3 Brocton 1

An impressive performance from AFC Wulfrunians saw them run out 3-1 victors against in-form Brocton. Although the visitors had plenty of chances of their own, Wulfs were the more clinical side.

Some exciting football saw Wulfs open the scoring after 13 minutes. Jamie King and Jacob Craner linked up in the middle of the pitch; Craner threaded Andy Thompson in behind the defence and the striker calmly slotted the ball past Calum Barrett.

Gary Fife should have levelled shortly after as he latched onto a brilliant ball by David Berks, only for Danny Tipton to pull off an impressive save with his feet.

Thompson turned the provider on 35 minutes as Wulfrunians doubled their lead. He showed great strength to hold off a defender before selflessly squaring it to King, who fired home.

A string of great saves from Tipton kept Brocton at bay. He got down low to his left to tip Berks’ powerful effort around the post and then leapt up high to turn the same player’s next effort over the bar.

Fife should have added another for the visitors as he collected a poorly cleared corner, but he smashed his effort from close range off the post.

King added his second on the stroke of half time. Jake Sedgemore played him through with a quick free kick and his powerful shot was deflected through the ‘keeper’s legs by a defender.

The visitors added a goal back halfway through the second half. Fife’s shot from the edge was parried away but it fell to skipper Carl Morris, who rolled home from close range.

King could have completed his hat-trick with ten minutes to go as he carried the ball from inside his own half but his shot from the edge of the area flew wide.

Wulfs will look to secure back-to-back wins as they host Continental Star this coming Saturday.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Jones, Talbot, Sedgemore, Hill, Asbury, McDonald (D Brown 86), Palmer, Thompson (Bood 72), Craner (Rose-Laing 72), King.
