AFCW 0 Trysull 1 (JW Hunt Cup)

West Midlands League Division One side Trysull pulled off a major shock as they progressed to the semi final of the JW Hunt Cup after a 1-0 win at AFC Wulfrunians. Aaron Gordon’s 66th minute goal proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Wulfs were first to show with Demetri Brown turning a neat ball around the corner for Andy Thompson whose low shot was comfortably collected by Trysull keeper Dave Scorer.

In the 37th minute Thompson burst through three defenders only to be denied by a superb last ditch tackle by Matt Payne. Demetri Brown burst on to the loose ball but his shot was deflected over the bar at close range by Scorer.

Trysull’s first real sight of goal came six minutes into the second half when Jonny Patrick’s corner was headed wide at the far post by Simon Baugh.

Wulfs then went close from a corner at the other end when Brown bundled Robertson’s near post corner goalwards only for it to be cleared off the line.

The breakthrough finally came in the 66th and it came for Trysull. Jonny Patrick’s superb cross field ball found Aaron Gordon in space and he fired low past the keeper.

Ryan Walker then forced Jono Brown into making a save before Wulfs had a great chance to equalise from the penalty spot after Nathan Rose-Laing had been brought down. The same player picked himself up but his spot kick was saved by Scorer.

Wulfs threw everything at Trysull for the final few minutes but they defended resolutely and held on without any further scares.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: J Brown, Perks, Burd (Talbot 72), Rose-Laing, Hill, Skedgel, Haynes (Davies 85), Craner, Thompson, D Brown, Robertson (King 72).
