Tipton Town 0 AFCW 4

A brace from Andy Thompson helped AFC Wulfrunians bring 2015 in with style, as they recorded a 4-0 victory against Tipton Town. Further goals from Jamie King and Craig Gregg, as well as the team’s first clean sheet since November, all added up to an impressive victory.

Thompson opened the scoring after just 11 minutes. He picked the ball up on the edge of the area, after a poor headed clearance, and fired past Jack Hayfield into the bottom corner.

A curling free kick from skipper Jake Sedgemore almost saw Wulfs’ lead doubled just three minutes later. The floated effort from the left almost caught the ‘keeper off guard, but it cannoned off the bar and bounced away.

It was Thompson who turned provider for the second goal. He latched onto Liam Bood’s lofted ball and squared to King, who smashed his effort in off the underside of the bar.

A goal-line scramble could have put the visitors out of site before half time. David Howells saw his header saved, Thompson saw his shot blocked and Bood saw his effort saved before the ball was eventually cleared.

Just after the break; King went past two defenders with ease, but his low shot from the edge of the area was tipped away by Hayfield.

Danny Tipton’s only save of the game came when he had to push away substitute Ian Millward’s long-range effort with 70 minutes played.

After 80 minutes, Bood broke clear down the left and pulled the ball back to King, who saw his shot savedonly for Thompson to add his second of the game as he pounced on the rebound fired home.

Substitute Craig Gregg completed the scoring for Wulfrunians in the 86th minute- just four minutes after coming on as a substitute. Thompson ran down the right and, adding his second assist of the night, crossed for Gregg to poke home from close range.

Next up for Wulfrunians is another away trip, as they go up against Trysull in the quarter final of the J.W. Hunt Cup on Tuesday night.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Perks, Jones, Sedgemore, Hill, Asbury, Howells, Palmer (Haynes 83), Thompson, Bood (Gregg 82), King (Webb 80).
