AFC Wulfrunians suffered their first defeat of 2015, as they fell 2-0 to strugglers Tipton Town. The visitors made better use of their chances than Wulfs, but the game could easily have gone very differently.

The first chance for Tipton came after 15 minutes, captain Steve Weaver played a great ball to Gurjit Singh behind the Wulfs back line, but his shot was well saved with his feet by Danny Tipton.

Jamie King could have put the home side ahead when Demetri Brown was brought down on the edge of the area. King stepped up and struck the free kick, but it rattled off the crossbar before bouncing clear.

An excellent two minutes from Nicky Pugh saw him give Tipton the lead. Twelve minutes before the break, the post was the only thing that could deny him, as he met Jamie Moore’s quick free kick with a first-time volley.

There was nothing to deny him just a minute later, however, as he was allowed to freely meet David Bate’s cross to head his side in front from five yards out.

Some good play by Brown almost saw Wulfs level just after the break. He worked hard to recover the ball on the left before delivering a cross to Liam Bood, but he couldn’t keep his shot down.

A triple substitution seemed to give Wulfs a greater impetus going forward as they pushed for an equaliser. This was key as it led to Jordan Perks bursting forward and playing a brilliant scoop pass to Jacob Craner but, on his return to the club after a spell away, he volleyed just over the bar.

Tipton killed the game off with 16 minutes left; David Meese collected a poorly cleared corner on the edge of the box and dribbled through a crowd of players before curling his effort past the ‘keeper’s outstretched hand.

Wulfrunians will look to bounce back from this disappointing defeat as they face the trip to Stourport Swifts for an important game on Tuesday night.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Perks, Talbot, Sedgemore, Hill, Asbury, Howells (McDonald 55), Palmer, D Brown (Thompson 55), Bood (Craner 55), King.
