AFCW 1 B’ham City 5 (B’ham Senior Cup)

AFC Wulfrunians suffered a convincing 5-1 defeat at the hands of an impressive Birmingham City side in the Birmingham Senior Cup. The Championship club’s class was clear to see as they ran out clear victors.

The visitors got off to a great start; Reece Webb’s ball over the top put Kyle Mcfarlane in behind the defence and he made no mistake as he slotted calmly past Jono Brown.

Their lead was doubled after 12 minutes; Reece Brown won the ball in Wulfrunians’ half and took it past two defenders before firing low into the corner.

Wesley Mcdonald had a chance to add another a minute later. He went though on goal but Brown did well to save it with his feet.

Mcfarlane almost took advantage of a mistake in defence to further Birmingham’s lead. A poor backpass by Ryan Talbot saw him through on goal, but Brown did well to push the shot wide.

Bernhard Dominic added a third nine minutes before half time. The ball fell to him on the edge and he curled it out of the reach of Brown into the top corner.

Jamie King pulled one back for Wulfs just four minutes later. His low free kick from range skidded past Connell Trueman with help from the post.

Birmingham continued to have most of the chances after the break. Brown had the best of the early second half chances but the ‘keeper gathered on the second attempt.

Mcfarlane won a penalty for the visitors after 74 minutes when he went through and was brought down by Brown. Liam Truslove stepped up calmly and slotted it home.

They added another with nine minutes left; Mcdonald beat two players as he cut in from the left before firing a powerful finish past Brown.

Wulfrunians now start a run of three consecutive home games as they welcome Rocester to the Castlecroft Stadium in the league this weekend.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Brown, Sedgemore (Rose-Laing 60), Jones, Palmer (Davies 87), Skedgel, Talbot, Haynes, Howells, King, Stevenson, Robertson.
