Boldmere St Michaels 1 AFCW 1

A late strike by Keiran Westwood ensured the points were shared in a lively clash between Boldmere St. Michaels and AFC Wulfrunians. Mike Robertson had put Wulfs in front with a cracking strike but the hosts levelled with just three minutes to go.

The first real chance of the game fell to Wulfs’ Jamie King after 20 minutes. He cut in from the right but saw his left-footed shot saved by Adam Jenkins’ feet.

Jason Holmes had a great opportunity as he leapt to meet Westwood’s cross- but his header grazed the bar.

Robertson and King linked up seven minutes before half time but Robertson was denied by a great save. He picked the ball up after a good run by King only to see his effort parried up by Jenkins before being headed clear.

The home side had a fantastic chance to take the lead just after the interval. Ross Clarke’s free kick found Roland Agbor- who was free just five yards out- but his diving header cannoned off the bar.

King had a great run as he picked the ball up inside his own half; taking it past three men only for his strike to fly over the bar.

Wulfrunians finally took the lead after 73 minutes. Robertson collected the ball from deep, driving forward without any pressure from defenders he fired a wonderful strike that went in off the underside of the bar.

Substitute Joel Ayettey should have levelled with five minutes to go. He burst through behind the Wulfs defence but his attempted chip of JonoBrown landed wide of the mark.

Just two minutes later, however, Boldmere were level. Westwood received the ball on the edge of the area and fired it into the corner- just out of the reach of Brown.

It was Brown, playing against his former club, who saved Wulfrunians in injury time. He pulled off two fantastic reflex saves; first denying Westwood getting his second and then denying Ayettey in the final minute to hold on for a point.

AFC Wulfrunians line: Brown, Perks, Talbot, Sedgemore, Hill, Asbury, King (McDonald 86), Howells, Gregg (Thompson 90), Stevenson, Robertson.
